Life & Career Milestones
My path in life has been direct
1.
I grew up in Detroit, Michigan, and discovered early on that my local school system was deeply under-resourced.
2.
At 17, I chose journalism because it blended performance and public service, but I soon learned the news is also a business.
3.
Reading “Amazing Grace” opened my eyes to systemic inequities in education and made me want to fix them.
4.
I joined Teach For America and taught in Washington D.C., where I saw firsthand how hard and vital teaching is.
5.
I spent 15 years in education as a teacher, principal, and nonprofit leader, learning the full system from classroom to policy.
6.
I pivoted into tech at Amazon, using my experience to build community-based education solutions like Amazon Future Engineer.
7.
I now work for a philanthropic foundation focused on solving big problems in K-12 education with equity and access at the core.
